Scott Kelly Wins on Lake Palestine
Palestine Texas......Preparation and a positive attitude were the keys for success for 1st place winner Scott Kelly of Watauga, Texas on Lake Palestine in the BWS Texas East division on February 27th. He won with a weight of 20.04 lbs. "I learned this last year as a co-angler in the Bassmaster Weekend Series fishing with some of the best bass fisherman in Texas" says Kelly. Kelly pitched a 3/8 oz Black and Blue Strike King Jig tipped with a Zoom salty chunk Jr. at docks and pre-spawn staging areas. As the day progressed he finished out his limit with a finesse worm on a Chompers Shaky head. Trailing by one pound was Kenny Lively of Grapeland, Texas with a total weight of 19.04. Lively also had big bass for the day of 7.68 lbs. and third place was returning BWS angler Brian Clark of Haltom City, Texas with 17.09 lbs.
The Co-angler winner was Scottie Owen of Hamilton, Texas weighing in 9.33 lbs. followed by Corey Freeman of Tyler, Texas with 9.29 lbs. and big bass on the co-angler side of 5.96 lbs. Third place co-angler was Joe Embry of Tyler, Texas with 8.35 lbs.
These anglers are acquiring critical points to ensure their berth in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series Championship that will be worth more than $680,000 in cash and prizes and will include a slot in the Bassmaster Classic. The Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series operated by American Bass Anglers is not only the stepping stone to the Bassmaster Classic, but guarantees $5,000 to the winning boater and $2,500 to the winner Co-Angler of each divisional event (based on 100 boats), plus contingencies from Triton Boats and Mercury Marine of up to $7,000 per event.
The next event for this division is on Lake Tyler on March 27th launching from Lake Tyler Marina.
