George Crain wins $5,000.00 on Eufaula Co-Angler Troy Phillips Wins $2,500
Athens, Alabama – Feb. 6, 2010 - George Crain of Cropwell, Alabama stepped a little closer to a possible berth into the prestigious Bassmaster Classic with his first place finish on Lake Eufaula during the Feb. 6 Bass Weekend Series event. Crain brought a limit of 5 bass to the scales that weighed 16.07 pounds, and took home the winning check for $5,000.00. Crain targeted mats in 2 to 4 feet of water and flipped a plastic beaver and a jig to secure his victory in the tournament.
Following Crain was Troy Gibson, who came in with a weight of 14.38 pounds to take second place. Finishing out the top three was Jack White, who put 11.95 pounds on the scales for third place.
Frank Sine took the big bass award with a beautiful 8.23 pound largemouth.
On the co-angler side, first place went to Troy Phillips, of McIntosh, Alabama. Phillips was also fishing shallow behind his boater in 3 to 4 feet of water, and used a Net Bait Baby Paca Craw that netted him 8.01 pounds to overcome the rest of the co-angler field. Second place on the co-side went to Allan Smith, who had a weight of 6.48 pounds.
Bubba Hughes took third place on the co-angler side with one fish – a 6.26 pound largemouth that also took the big fish prize on the co-angler side. Hughes caught is fish around 9am that morning fishing 14 feet of water with a jig, and it was his only bite of the day.
These anglers are acquiring critical points to ensure their berth in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series Championship which will be worth more than $680,000 in cash and prizes and will include a slot in the Bassmaster Classic.
