Royal Purple awards $15,000 to top anglers

Athens,AL............David Huie of Dallas GA, boater, and Lenny Baird of Stafford, VA, co-angler, received $10,000 and $5,000 respectively for attaining the Royal Purple “Angler of the Year” titles at the 2009 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship in Dardanelle, AR.  The Royal Purple Angler of The Year program is designed to reward the top anglers that use Royal Purple marine and automotive products.

“I had a great time in Arkansas,” said Huie of Dallas, Ga., the boater Angler of the Year. “Winning Angler of the Year is one of my greatest accomplishments! I was very well pleased with everything during the tournament and especially pleased with getting to take home $10,000! I own a plumbing business and I started using Royal Purple oil in all of my vehicles, Bobcat and excavating equipment. I have a Ford truck with over 300,000 miles and my mechanic told me that it would be good for vehicles that are used a lot and have a lot of hours on them. I would recommend it to anyone that has heavy equipment they use in their business.

Baird of Stafford, Va., was named the Angler of the Year of the Co-Angler division.

“I was very surprised and feel really great about it,” said Baird. “I didn’t make the cut and was already on my way home when Morris (Sheehan, president of American Bass Anglers, which operates the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series) called and told me to come back. I’m glad I did! Last year I was probably in fifth or sixth place overall, so when Royal Purple announced their program, I made it my goal to shoot for.

“I use the oil in my race car. We did a great deal of testing to see what oil would give us more horsepower and Royal Purple was the hands down choice for the extra 10 it gave us. We generally change it about every 400 laps, so as you can see, we use a lot of oil. And, not only was it the choice for the extra horsepower, but for the protection it gave our engine. We run a Ford stockcar in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. I’m sure I spent well over $1,000 for Royal Purple oil just since January. I also use the gear lube on my lower unit and motor in my boat. It’s just a fantastic product,” Baird said.
