Dick Parker Claims Ohio Championship
By: Joe Angelone
8/23/2009 - Sandusky, Ohio - Dick Parker of Amherst, Ohio was able to put all the pieces of the puzzle together to bring in a total of 38.96 lbs of fish in two days, and collect the 1st place check of $5000, bringing him one step closer to capturing a slot in the Bassmaster Classic. Dick bettered the field at Lake Erie by over 4 pounds, fishing in 20 to 30 feet of water off of the ledges that Lake Erie provides. The first day of competition he was able to put an impressive limit of over 20 pounds together off a couple of ledges that he found during practice. On day two he was not as fortunate and he only had one fish in the boat by 11 AM, which began to concern him. He thought he had blown the tournament. He made a decision to keep moving and was finally able to put another impressive limit in the boat to give him his winning weight. Dick used a drop shot rig and a tube, colors were not mentioned. He also caught the boater big fish of the tournament with a 5.45 pound largemouth.
Beau Bickford of Bettsville, Ohio took home 1st place on the co-angler side with a two day total of 17.23 lbs. 2nd Place for the co-anglers went to Simon Blanton of Mechanicsburg, Ohio with a 16.93 total weight for the two day competition. Big bass went to Eric Carsten with a nice bass weighing in at 5.47 lbs. which turned out to be the big fish of the tournament.
Congratulations to all of the anglers who qualified for the Northeast Regionals which are going to be held on the Potomac River in October.
