Brown Wins $10,000 on Chickamauga

By Lisa Talmadge

Dayton, TN...June 13, 2009...Rogie Brown of Hixson, TN is one step closer to the Bassmaster Classic with his first place victory in the Tennessee East division earning $5,000 in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series bass tournament held on Chickamauga Lake.  He also collected the Triton Black Gold bonus money worth $5000.  Rogie`s five bass limit weighed in at 22.66 pounds.

Brown started his tournament day fishing between 8 and 12 ft deep with good success.  By 9:00 am, the Hixson, TN angler had a limit in his livewell estimated at 21.50 pounds.  Rotating through approximately ten fishing spots, Brown didn`t catch another keeper until 1:30 pm.  With two hours left to fish, he located a giant school of bass in the 20 – 25 ft depth.  He hammered through the school of bass using a swimbait amongst other things with his new 7` 6” Heavy Swimbait/Frog Rod from Nuclear Rods to cull up three times and achieve his winning weight.  Rogie would like to thank his sponsors, Triton Boats, Stealth 1 Charging Systems and Nuclear Rods.

Boaters brought 248 fish to the scales with a total weight of 635.67 pounds: second – Heath Pack of Mineral Bluff, GA with 18.89; third – Eric Peeler of Calhoun, GA with 17.44; fourth – Josh Wofford of Ooltewah, TN with 16.80; and fifth – Mark Mauldin of Knoxville, TN with 16.75.  Boater big bass award went to Heath Pack for catching a 5.82 pound largemouth.

The co-anglers brought 137 fish to the scales with a total weight of 328.35 pounds.  Creed Eldridge of Harrogate, TN took first on the co-angler side with a total weight of 11.62 pounds.  Remaining top five co-anglers were: second – Stan Bishop of Rockwood, TN with 10.10; third – William Kendrick of Chatsworth, GA with 9.87; fourth – Barry Wingo of Hixson, TN with 8.98; and fifth Richie Crass of Harriman, TN with 8.48.  Co-angler big bass award went to Adam Thornton of Cohutta, GA for catching a 5.00 pound largemouth.

The final tournament for Division 04 – Tennessee East will be held August 29-30, 2009 on Watts Bar launching from Tom Fuller Park.
