Black Gold Bonus Comes Alive at Alum Creek, Ohio
By Joe Angelone
Galena, Ohio - 16 May, 2009 - Winning the second Ohio Division Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament on Alum Creek reservoir, Bryan McNeal of Enon, Ohio stands to cash in on the Black Gold Bonus and take home $12,000! Bryan, owner of a 2008 Triton with a Mercury 250 Pro XS and MotorGuide trolling motor, will collect a big pay day, greatly enhanced as a result of his support of the tournament sponsors.
Bryan, 41 years old, is married with 2 children, his youngest baby girl just over a month old, so this win is very special to him. He came down a day early to pre-fish. Come tournament morning he did not have high expectations for the tournament. Bryan felt, however, that if the wind picked up and it was cloudy and rainy he would drop his trolling motor and go along the shore with his favorite spinner bait. Mother nature cooperated and using a fast paced pattern, he felt confident that he could put a limit in the boat. Bryan concentrated on 3 to 5 foot of water with a sandy to gravel bottom. He had 7 bites all day and was able to cull 2 fish. Bryan had a winning weight of 9.67 lbs with a big fish of 3.68 lbs. Walking past Bryan going to my truck, I heard him talking to his wife, telling her “ I have something exciting to tell you as he mentioned that he won the tournament,” I believe I could hear the cheers and congratulations through his phone!
The Black Gold win is worth $5000 in tournament purse and an additional sponsor bonus from Triton and Mercury for $7000.
Second place honors go to Ron Nutter Jr., of Newark, Ohio with a 5 fish limit of 8.53 lbs. Big fish on the boater side went to Ryan Stumpf with a 3.92lb bass.
On the co-angler side, Sean Ison, of Hillsboro, Ohio was able to land 2 fish weighing a total of 2.90 lbs and cash a check for 1st place, winning over $1200. Second place honors go to Charles Anderson of Dayton, Ohio who was fortunate enough to land 1 fish which was also the co-angler big fish at 2.76 lbs.
The next Ohio Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament is on Rocky Fork Lake out of East Shore Marina on May 30th. It is very important that you all be there for this tournament, the tournament staff will hand out dream sheets for anglers to make their input for the schedule for next season.
