Todd Allen Langford Conquers Chesapeake
BY Joe Angelone
North East Md, May 9, 2009 - The Northeast Maryland Division fished its third event in the town of North East on the Upper Chesapeake Bay. The anglers were facing tough conditions after extensive rains the area received during the week had turned the tidal Chesapeake to a muddy brown. Todd Allen Langford from Ashburn, Virginia was able to better the rest of the anglers by more than 2lbs. He was also able to land the big bass of the tournament weighing 6.12 lbs, as well as collect the first place prize of $5,000 with an impressive total weight of 18.74 lbs. Todd, happily married with a wife that supports his fishing habit, was able to locate his successful pattern pre-fishing Friday for this event. With the muddy water conditions and a 65 degree water temperature he located his quality fish using a jig in water depths from one to six feet. He found that he had to work his jig through the weeds till he felt a hard bottom and then pause and let them run away with it. With a slow start Todd wasn’t able to put a fish in the livewell until 11 o’clock. He only had 5 bites all day and landed all five fish. Congratulations Todd on a job well done!
There was a tie for second place honors between Rick Anderson, from Dover, Pa. and Terry Olinger, of The Plains, Va., both with a total weight of 16.30lbs.
On the co-Angler side, William Gallagher from Southampton, Pa decided to fish as a co-angler at the last possible minute on Friday. He brought in the winning weight of 8.98 lbs with only 2 fish. He also had co-angler big fish which weighed 5.05. Second place co-angler was Marvin Reese from Gwynn Oak, Md. with 7.41 lbs.
The next Maryland tournament is May 23rd on the Potomac River going out of Smallwood State Park. This will be the last one day qualifying event for the Maryland Division.
