Practice Makes Perfect For Revis On Ft. Loudoun
By Mike Whatley
Lenoir City, Tenn. – May 2, 2009 Anthony Revis, from Dayton, TN, spent his time wisely prior to this weekend`s Tennessee East, Division 4 tournament of the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series operated by American Bass Anglers. He spent the previous five weekends finding and staying in tune to the resident bass on the Ft. Loudoun/Tellico Lakes system so he would know just what to do and where to do it. His First Place victory earned him the guaranteed $5,000 purse plus 200 points toward his qualifying for the Year-end Championship worth over $200,000 and a slot in the prestigious “Bassmaster Classic”.
Having devoted every weekend since their last division outing to finding these fish, Anthony was well versed on the goings on for all three species of bass that live in the TVA impoundment. With the Smallmouth having come off the bed and hard to find in their post spawn haunts, and the Spotted Bass not measuring with enough size to secure a win, Revis concentrated on the Largemouth that were starting to move up and make beds of their own. Local storms had been moving through the area just prior to and throughout the event, causing the water to cool slightly as well as take on a little more color as it rose with the influx of area watershed. Anthony found his fish on tournament day to be holding right on the bank and was able to put together a 5 fish limit that weighed in at 13.47 pounds and captured the Big Bass for the Boaters as well with a healthy 4.39 pound fish. When asked what his lure of choice was, Revis gave credit to a 3/8 ounce Strike King spinner bait in white with tandem Indiana blades for the winning catch. Besides the guaranteed $5000 prize, Anthony also cashed in an additional $230 for the Big Bass prize and is also eligible for additional contingencies through the Triton Gold program
The remaining top five boaters were: Second Place, Dale Pelfrey of Rockwood, TN (5 fish, 12.06 pounds, $1102); Third Place, Scott Gross of Spring City, TN (5 fish, 10.33 pounds, $735); Fourth Place, Darcy Boynton of Pikeville, TN (5 fish, 9.65 pounds, $514) and Fifth Place, Brandon Roop of Dayton, TN (5 fish, 9.43 pounds, $441)
Kibbie McCoy, of Crossville, TN took top honors on the Co-Angler side with a 3 fish, 7.15 pound limit from the back of the boat. McCoy said that between himself and his boater, they landed approximately 40 bass throughout the day. Both anglers were throwing Carolina Rigs, but the Zoom Magnum Lizard that Kibbie had laced on his hook drew the better bites. All of the fish were caught at a depth of 6 to 15 feet deep.
The remaining top five co-anglers were: Second Place, Barry Wingo of Hixon, TN (3 fish, 6.24 pounds, $551); Third Place, Paul Pierce of Athens, TN (3 fish, 4.94 pounds, $367); Fourth Place, Stan Bishop of Rockwood, TN (3 fish, 4.88 pounds, $257) and Fifth Place, Gabriel Keen of Dayton, TN (3 fish, 4.68 pounds, $220)
The Division 4, Tennessee East angle have one more single day qualifier remaining. They will once again come together on Lake Chickamauga on June 13, launching from Dayton Boat Dock.
