Hoskinson Wins on Kentucky Lake
By Lisa Talmadge
Hardin, KY . . . April 19, 2009...Greg Hoskinson of Louisville, KY is another step closer to the Bassmaster Classic with his first place victory in the Kentucky division earning $5,000 in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series bass tournament held on Kentucky Lake. Hoskinson`s five bass limit weighed in at 20.23 pounds. Hoskinson knew the fish would be shallow and in the bushes looking to spawn and when he could not catch them flipping he turned to a D&S spinnerbait to boat the winning stringer. The winner remarked that his spinnerbait has a tunable titanium wire that puts off a more intense vibration than other spinnerbaits. He landed ten keepers in the backs of shallow pockets and cited that the spinnerbait was the key to his victory.
Boaters brought in a total of 229 fish weighing 644.80 pounds. Boaters in the top five were: second – Cy Duvall of Corydon, IN with 18.27; third – David Brunaugh of Carbondale, IL with 17.93; fourth – John Morvich of Grantsburg, IL with 17.84; and fifth – Harry Barber of Madisonville, KY with 17.01. Boater big bass award went to Cy Duvall for catching a 6.12 pound largemouth.
The co-anglers brought 95 fish to the scales with a total weight of 275.79 pounds. Dan Basham from Louisville, KY took first place on the co-angler side with a total weight of 12.28 pounds and secured his win with a 6.42 largemouth that also won him the big bass award. Remaining top five co-anglers were: second – Brandon Taylor of Franklin, KY with 12.17; third – Brendan Murphy of Cape Girardeau, MO with 11.30; fourth – Shane Patton of Taylorsville, KY with 10.82; and fifth – Jayme Grundy of Greenville, KY with 10.17.
Special thanks to Mike Romano with the Kenlake Marina for all his help and support. Without his help and cooperation this event would not have been such a huge success.
The next event for Division 15 – Kentucky will be held 6 June 2009 on Barkley & Kentucky launching from the Kuttawa Ramp.
