Wells Goes Back to Back in the Tennessee East Division

By Lisa Talmadge

Hixson, TN...April 4, 2009...Fishing out of a Triton Mercury package that he won fishing the Grand Slam Series in ’08, Jerry Wells is another step closer to the Bassmaster Classic with his second first place victory in the Tennessee East division earning $5,000 in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series bass tournament held on Chickamauga Lake.  His Triton Gold rig earned him extra contingency money as well.  Wells` five bass limit weighed in at 20.02 pounds.

Wells concentrated on a single stretch of bank alternating between crankbaits and Zoom finesse worms to achieve his winning weight. His first fish was over six pounds and his last fish was also over six pounds with good solid keepers in between. The two time winner said he never culled during the day but would like to thank Ed Chambers of Zoom Bait Company for supplying him with the key baits in his latest victory.

Boaters brought in a total of 201 fish weighing 572.14 pounds.  Boaters in the top five were: second – Anthony Revis of Dayton, TN with 19.77; third – Greg Lamb of Ringgold, GA with 18.82; fourth – Michael Neal of Dayton, TN with 18.34; and fifth – Steve Barnes of Harrison, TN with 17.72.  Boater big bass award went to Jeff Knight of Georgetown, TN for catching an 8.33 pound largemouth.

The co-anglers brought 89 fish to the scales with a total weight of 250.52 pounds.  Neil Magnussen from Soddy Daisy, TN took first place on the co-angler side with a total weight of 12.80 pounds.  Remaining top five co-anglers were: second – Michael Richey from Dayton, TN with 11.33; third – Creed Eldridge from Harrogate, TN with 11.23; fourth – Brandon Taylor from Franklin, KY with 9.72; and fifth – Gabriel Keen from Dayton, TN with 9.52.  Co-angler big bass award went to Neil Magnussen for catching a 6.74 pound largemouth.

Special thanks to the anglers for their fish care efforts.  There was a 100 percent live-release at the conclusion of the weigh-in.

The next event for Division 4 – Tennessee East will be held 2 May 2009 on Ft. Loudoun-Tellico and launching from the Tellico Recreational Ramp.
